When you book travel insurance, you usually do this well in advance to the actual trip. You do this because certain benefits will not be open to you book too close to the departure date. If you book after your departure, once you’re there at your destination, definitely not all benefits will be open to you. You won’t be able to insure, retroactively, for example, the plane ride over, in which you just “happened” to have lost your bags. No, it will too late then, obviously. But, on the other hand, you can do things with your coverage from the point of your destination.
